How The Reveal works, and what the AI reads
In Eterna, neither partner can see the other’s answer until both have answered. Then The Reveal shows both answers side by side. AI insights are optional and stay off until each of you says yes. Here is how each part works, and what is sent where, in plain words.
How does The Reveal work?

Can my partner see my answer before I finish?
No. Your partner cannot see your answers until you have both answered. This is enforced on our servers, not only on your screen.
What are AI insights?
AI insights are optional. When you both finish a Section, or a part of My Manual, you get a short reflection on what you both wrote. They are part of Eterna Plus, and they start only once each of you has said yes.
What does the AI read?
Only the answers in the Section or My Manual part you have both finished, and your first names. They are sent to OpenAI, our AI provider, to write the reflection. Eterna does not use your answers to train AI models, and Eterna’s OpenAI data-sharing settings are turned off, so OpenAI does not use the answers we send to train its models either. OpenAI normally keeps a copy in its own abuse-monitoring logs for up to 30 days, under its own terms. The Privacy Policy has the full detail.

Can I turn AI insights off?
Yes. They are off until you choose to turn them on. Each of you decides for yourself, and nothing is sent until both of you have said yes. Either of you can turn them off at any time in Settings, without your partner’s agreement, and it takes effect at once for both of you. A request that was already sent before you turned it off may still finish, and insights already written stay, like your other shared content.
Is the AI giving advice?
AI reflections can be inaccurate. They are not professional or therapeutic advice, and they do not promise any relationship outcome. Some insights include one optional idea for a reader, drawn from the answers. They do not score, grade or evaluate you or your relationship.
Frequently asked questions
Do you train AI on what I write?
No. Eterna does not use your answers to train AI models, and Eterna’s OpenAI data-sharing settings are turned off, so OpenAI does not use the answers we send to train its models.
Who can read what I write?
You, your partner when content is shared with them, and authorised staff when necessary. Service providers process relevant data as the Privacy Policy describes, including OpenAI when both partners agree to AI insights.
Are AI insights on by default?
No. They are off until each of you chooses to turn them on, and nothing is sent until both of you have.
What if I turn AI insights off?
It takes effect at once for both of you, and no new answers are sent. Insights already written stay, like your other shared content.
Is AI used anywhere else in Eterna?
No. Section Insights and Manual Insights are the only two features that send answer content to an AI provider, and both need the consent of each of you.
Eterna does the hiding and the showing for you.
